Chairwoman of the board of directors, EDMOND DE ROTHSCHILD GROUP
“Modernizing a dynasty”
12th June 2019 at EDMOND DE ROTHSCHILD’S private salons
When Ariane de Rothschild took over as chief executive of Edmond de Rothschild Group in 2015, she was the first woman to run a Rothschild company in 200 years. A Rothschild by marriage rather than blood, and parent to four daughters, she told the group’s employees: “You’d better get used to having a woman running the business, because one day the bank will be women-led.” Since then Ariane has challenged the conservative assumptions about power, privilege, and the patriarchy that can prevail in families with a long history of traditions. She has overhauled an empire that ranges from a renowned investment house to the Four Seasons Hotel Megève and the Gitana fleet of racing boats, and also the family’s famous vineyards stretching from Argentina to New Zealand.
